A Love Letter to My Son (on Mother’s Day)

My Dearest Brayden,

Where do I begin? It is a privilege to be called your mother, momma, mommy. However you want to say it to me, IT. IS. A. PRIVILEGE. I GET to be your mom. I GET to love you with my whole heart. I GET to shepard you as you grow to know Christ.

Now, your 2 and a half so there's a lot of growing for you to do and I want you to know that I will always be here for you. I love you fiercely with a love that is so beyond myself it can only be given to me by God.

You are our miracle child. You are the son we didn't know if we could have. You are the special gift God gave to us.

You are a gift to the world! Your sweet smile and enthusiasm lights up a room. You don't just add joy to your parents lives, I also see the smiles from others when they see you, like the women at your preschool.

You've made and broken hearts in this world already son. At our gym, you are loved. People come out and shake your hand and want to touch your hair. They give you hugs and high fives and fist bumps every time they see you and they smile as soon as you appear. You have a light about you that is special and beyond compare!

Son, make no mistake. You are a gift to this world! You have a heart that is so full of love that I can't wait to see as you bloom and grow.

I love how you are grumpy when you wake up from a nap and immediately want a snack. Basically you are hungry all the time, let's be honest. I love your hunger for food and for the world. I love that you love to go on walks and just enjoy the sun, and even the rain.

My dearest son, I pray that your daddy and I raise you up knowing the Lord so that you will always feel the fullness of his love first when we let you down. And we will. But I pray that we will always ask forgiveness and know that we always want the best for you.

I pray you know how much we and God loves you when a kid makes fun of you at school. I pray that you know how much we and God love you when a girl breaks your heart. I pray you know how much we and God love you when you don't feel like you measure up in this world.

You will always measure up to me and God, fearless Brayden. Daddy and I, and most definitely God, will always love you. There is nothing you can ever do to make us stop loving you.

You are our special gift dear son!

I love you to the moon and back. And then around again. To infinity.

—Mommy
