Practical Tips for Disciplining the Mind

Here’s a few tips I hope encourage you as they have me.

  1. Taking thoughts captive. Capturing the good and correct thoughts of God laid out in our most precious gift The Bible. Letting the ideas/thoughts that are intrusive or don’t matter pass by. Almost like a train chugging along.

  2. Choosing JOY in the Lord above all else. This means clearing out the ugly, evil, sin, and repenting to have a clean heart!

  3. Being grateful for the small and big. A prayer is that God open my eyes to all the miracles around me every single day. To see his beauty in our every day life… and there is much beauty to behold! Something to ponder - A grateful heart cannot be a fearful heart simultaneously.

  4. Letting God fill my cup so I do not run to others to fill that void! I am reminded to take up my cross daily and follow Jesus. David Platt wrote a fantastic book about this in 2013 entitled Follow Me. The beauty of quiet time with the Lord so he can fill us to overflowing with love, wisdom, compassion and peace.

  5. Not being surprised by trials and setbacks. Choosing to rejoice! Reminding yourself that various trials are common to all man. 1 Peter 4:12 & 19 entrusting thy soul to the Creator! As Hannah’s character says in the movie OvercomerThe creator DEFINES his creation.
